Garnet is a group of silicate minerals used as abrasives for many industrial and pre-industrial processes.
The varieties of Garnet take many colours, including red, orange, yellow, green, purple or black, but the colours on tan are the most frequent. The Garnet sand replaced long ago the silica sand in the application as an abrasive whose cause is the free crystalline silica, an element that recent studies have shown to be toxic and harmful to the environment and human health. Garnet is a very valuable alternative for blasting processes thanks to a pronounced angle of its grain, higher hardness and higher specific gravity. Combined with high-pressure water, Garnet is frequently used to cut steel and other materials by means of waterjet processes, for which is selected a particularly hard abrasive sand so as to obtain a product specifically optimized for cutting. Thanks to its superior hardness and higher specific gravity, the Garnet sand is often preferred to conventional abrasive materials as the siliceous sand and quartz in the realization of multilayer filters for water filtration, ensuring a longer service life in application. The 80 Mesh is the standard type used in the waterjet technology, it allows you to have the right balance between speed and cutting. It is suitable for blasting of metals, alloys and stone.
